Optician Employment Description Summary
We are looking for an optician to help our patients choose and adjust their new prescription eyeglasses. Applicants should have a combination of frame and product knowledge and experience working with different face shapes and prescriptions. Our ideal applicant is self-motivated, compassionate, and has some familiarity with the basics of ophthalmology and optometry. Applicants must also have experience with contact lenses.
Optician Duties and Responsibilities
- Interpret and fill prescriptions from the providing doctor
- Assist patients to pick out a suitable frame that suits their style, face, and prescription
- Determine distance PD, near PD, and appropriate seg height
- Adjust and fix existing frames for patients
- Prepare, submit, and track work orders with our optical laboratory
- Maintain inventory of frames
- Maintain records of patient prescriptions, work orders, and payments
- Educate patients on contact lens pricing and applicable rebates, order contact lenses and maintain appropriate records regarding contact lenses
- Educate patients on the proper insertion and removal of contact lenses
- Perform administrative duties such as answering phone calls, making patient appointments, maintaining patient files
