The Mission of JWCH Institute is to improve the health status and well-being of under-served segments of the population of the Los Angeles area through the direct provision or coordination of health care, health education, services, and research. We are looking to hire a new full-time or part-time Optometrist to provide care to our patients under the direction of the physician team leader. The Optometrist will collaborate with the Chief Medical Director and render comprehensive optometric care to patients of Wesley Health Centers

What You’ll Do:
- Provide optical care to indigent primary care patients
- Perform all routine vision and ocular examinations in order to provide appropriate corrections
- Prescribe lenses and necessary correction alternatives.
- Use tests and procedures to detect and appropriately manage disorders such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration
- Diagnose, treat, and management of ocular diseases.
- Evaluate patients for the presence of diseases such as diabetes and refer patients to other healthcare providers as needed.
- Consult training or assist in the training of optometry students, medical students, interns, residents, nurse practitioners, and other related health professionals
- Coordinate medical care of assigned patients.
- Consult with other staff physicians and para-medical personnel regarding medical management of patients and quality of medical and diagnostic work performed
- Confer with the medical director on management issues.
- Confers on the planning and direction of the primary care team as it relates to the physician’s specialty
- Participate in medical and services utilization audits, peer review, and quality assurance activities
What You’ll Need:
- Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) Degree
- Current California Optometric License
- Current DEA Certificate
- Current CPR certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Must possess a valid California driver’s license and the ability to travel from site to site as needed
- Experience in working with clients and staff from diverse socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds
- Must have a Nat'l Provider Identifier (NPI), or obtain an NPI, prior to employment start date
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
