Professional opportunity for an Optician to join an established, premier Ophthalmology comprehensive eye care practice in Beverly Hills, California.
This state-of-the-art, high-tech, MD/OD medical/surgical practice is dedicated to delivering high quality optical, medical, and surgical eye care to our patients.
The practice consists of the sole owner/ Ophthalmologist who works closely with a staff of Optometrists, who are supported by an outstanding staff of ophthalmic technicians/scribes, opticians, surgical coordinators, billing department, administrative support staff and Director of Purchasing. The practice has a full-service in-house Optical Department.

Qualified candidates must be detail oriented; have a working knowledge of VSP and other insurance programs; have a professional work ethic; able to establish rapport with patients; work well with co-workers throughout the office; work with the Optometrists who provide the patient prescriptions; understand the importance of attendance; have a working knowledge regarding how to take and maintain inventory of the frames and additional products; demonstrate a working knowledge of using a credit card machine with basic mathematical skills; and be able to provide exceptional customer service.

The practice is open Monday through Friday. This is a full time position but part-time employment may be an option. White lab coats are provided for all staff members along with a laundry service.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: The optician works in the optical dispensary located within the practice. The optical dispensary carries a large selection of high-quality frames in a variety of price points including luxury designer lines. Patients in the practice are examined by the ophthalmologist and optometrists who prepare/write their prescriptions which are then brought to the optical department and patients work directly with the Optician(s) and optical staff to select frames/order contacts, etc.
Optician responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting patients select appropriate frames and styles based upon their personal specifications, needs and preferences.
- Taking and recording measurements of pupillary distance, seg heights, and fitting of frames.
- Assisting and educating patients regarding lens coatings and tints for their eyeglasses.
- Using specialized equipment including lensometers, lens gauges and calipers
- Preparing work orders and sending them to the optical labs, interfacing with the labs, including private labs and VSP lab. Qualified candidates must have a working knowledge of VSP Insurance programs and other insurance programs associated with optical purchases
- Receiving glasses back from the lab, calling patients, fitting and adjusting the eyeglasses. The fulfillment of optical orders must be done in a prompt, timely and efficient manner.
- Taking and recording inventory of frames on the shelf including those sold and sent to the lab.
-Communicating directly to the Director of Purchasing regarding inventory reports.
-Note: The Director of Purchasing oversees all frame purchases and is the practice liaison with all Optical Representative/Sales Representatives.
- Opticians must know how to repair eyeglasses as needed and manage contact lens orders and inventory.
- Opticians are responsible for collecting payments for glasses and contact lens orders & entering them in Officemate software program. Opticians must know how to use the credit card machine accurately.
The practice has state of the art technology including OCT, Optos, Visual fields, Topography, Zeiss iScription, Lipiflow and dry eye diagnostic testing.
