Overview
We are seeking a skilled and personable Optician to join our growing optometry office in Oxford, NC. As a key member of our team, you will play an essential role in providing top-notch care to our patients while helping us expand our services. The ideal candidate will be technically proficient, customer-focused, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Frame Removal: Assist in the removal of eyewear frames for adjustments, repairs, or when transitioning to a new pair of lenses.
- Accurate Measurements: Take precise measurements for lenses, fitting, and frame alignment to ensure optimal vision correction and comfort.
- Lens Assistance: Guide patients in selecting appropriate lenses based on their vision needs, and provide advice on lens types (single vision, bifocals, progressive, etc.).
- Cross-Training: Train employees in multiple areas of the practice, ensuring flexibility and coverage in various roles as needed.
- Refractive Support: Assist in refractive procedures to assess and determine the proper prescription for corrective lenses.
- Keratometry: Perform keratometry to measure the curvature of the cornea, which is essential for contact lens fitting and diagnosing certain eye conditions.
- Autorefractor Operation: Use autorefractors to measure the refractive error of a patient's eyes quickly and accurately, aiding in the diagnosis of vision problems.
- OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography): Conduct OCT scans to obtain detailed images of the retina, aiding in the detection of eye conditions like glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy.
- Pretesting: Perform a range of pretesting procedures to gather initial diagnostic information before the patient’s full eye exam, helping to streamline the exam process.
- Collaboration with Optical Sales: Work closely with the optical sales team to assist patients in selecting frames and lenses, and provide excellent customer service.
- Insurance and Patient Checkouts: Assist patients during checkout, including processing insurance claims and verifying coverage to ensure a smooth and accurate billing process.
Requirements:
- Strong technical knowledge of optical products and prescription analysis.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with patients.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- A positive, team-oriented attitude and a commitment to exceptional patient care.
- Experience: Previous experience in optometry or related fields is strongly preferred.
