About Our Practice

Washington Eye Doctors is an independent private practice that has been serving the community of Washington DC since 1950. We provide personalized eye care services to patients of all ages with the majority of them being recent graduates to 90 years of age. Our practice takes pride in making sure our patients feel as if we are their family. We use cutting edge technology to ensure our patients receive accurate diagnoses and the most effective treatments. 

We are looking for a talented Optometrist to join our family-friendly practice. You will be working alongside our optometrists, opticians, technicians, and our supporting administrative team. Each doctor typically sees about 10-14 patients per day with a good mix of annual comprehensive examinations, specialty contact lens care, glaucoma disease, dry eye disease, or eyecare emergencies. Our offices are fully equipped with equipment such as: 

  • OCT
  • Optomap
  • Myopia Master
  • Topography
  • Humphrey Visual Fields/Compass
  • Neurolens
  • LipiScan/LipiFlow
  • Large selection of contact lens diagnostic sets
  • Large Upscale Optical Boutique

Washington D.C. is a popular city for young people to live in. It has an extensive public transit system making it easy for transportation. There are plenty of restaurants, entertainment venues, museums, public parks, and other cultural sites to keep you busy. The metro area offers a tight-knit community where residents of the town gather for block parties.

Optometrist Job Duties & Responsibilities

We are searching for a talented OD to join our growing practice! You'll use your clinical and interpersonal skills to provide high-quality vision care to our patients. Our ideal candidate for the Optometrist position is someone who is a team player, outgoing, knowledgeable and entrepreneurial. Being able to have a connection with our patients is a must! We are open to experienced ODs or new graduates. We will provide mentorship and training to help you develop your clinical skill set. 

This is a full or part-time opportunity with limited Saturdays and no evenings! 

Your regular duties will include:

  • Perform comprehensive eye exams
  • Diagnose and assist in the treatment of ocular disease
  • Prescribe corrective lenses with an emphasis in scleral and myopia management
  • Provide pre- and post-operative care to surgical patients
  • Promote healthy vision by counseling and educating patients
  • Maintain detailed patient records regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, and progress using EMR
  • Handle eyecare emergencies

Optometrist Job Requirements & Qualifications

  • Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree
  • Valid state license in DC, Maryland and Virginia to practice optometry
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of patient personalities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A strong sense of workplace professionalism and personal ethics
  • Customer-service orientation with excellent interpersonal skills
