Medical Optometrist – Corneal Disease & Refractive Surgery Focus- Full-Time- Private Practice Ophthalmology Group- Albuquerque, New Mexico

Position Overview

A well-established ophthalmology group in Albuquerque is seeking a highly skilled Medical Optometrist with a strong interest or background in corneal disease and refractive surgery. This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative, patient-centered team in a progressive medical setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced medical optometric care with a focus on corneal disease and refractive surgery, including diagnosis, treatment, consultation, and long-term management.
     
  • Co-manage a variety of corneal and refractive procedures such as LASIK, PRK, ICL, DMEK, DSAEK, PKP, and pterygium excision.
     
  • Manage conditions including ocular surface disease, keratoconus, corneal dystrophies, infectious keratitis, post-surgical complications, and other complex anterior segment cases.
     
  • Fit specialty contact lenses (scleral, hybrid, RGP, etc.) as needed.
     
  • Perform comprehensive medical eye exams and manage chronic ocular conditions (glaucoma, dry eye disease, uveitis, etc.).
     
  • Collaborate closely with ophthalmologists and fellow optometrists to ensure coordinated and high-quality patient care.
     
  • Educate patients on treatment plans, disease processes, and long-term ocular health.
     
  • Document care accurately and efficiently within the EMR system.
     
  • Participate in clinical meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and optional community outreach activities.
     

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Optometry (OD) from an accredited institution.
     
  • Residency training in cornea and contact lenses preferred; candidates with extensive corneal disease management experience will also be considered.
     
  • Eligible for or currently licensed to practice optometry in New Mexico.
     
  • Certification to treat and manage ocular disease (TPA).
     
  • Strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and a compassionate, patient-first approach.
     
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-specialty team.
     

Compensation & Benefits

  • Partnership consideration beginning in the second year of employment
     
  • $25,000 sign-on bonus
     
  • 25 days of PTO (for a 5-day workweek) plus 8 paid holidays
     
  • $6,000 annual professional allowance (unused amount paid out)
