About Our Practice

Gelman Vision is a private practice located in McAllen, TX. The clinic is owned by board-certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Rachel Gelman, who is the sole practitioner in the office. Dr. Gelman is a fellowship-trained cornea, cataract and refractive surgery specialist. Most of the surgeries performed by Dr. Gelman include cataract surgery, clear lens exchange, LASIK, and cornea surgeries including pterygium excisions and cornea transplants. As the only cornea transplant surgeon in the Rio Grande Valley, our practice sees a high volume of diseases and conditions of the cornea.

Our office has 1 practice administrator, 4 ophthalmic technicians, 4 receptionists and 1 insurance verifier.

Though our practice is located in McAllen, we see patients from the entire Rio Grand Valley area, which has a population of almost 1.5 million. Many of our patients are primarily Spanish-speaking, therefore being able to speak Spanish is a plus, but not a requirement. We have translator services able to assist when needed.

We are looking for an optometrist who would be able to perform comprehensive dilated eye exams for our patients, refractive surgery evaluations (including cataract, clear lens exchange and LASIK evaluations), and also postoperative exams and refractions. We offer our patients the Light Adjustable Lens, which requires postop refractions and Light Delivery Device (LDD) treatments. Training is available for the LDD treatments.

At Gelman Vision, our priorty is quality and customized patient eye care and patient satisfaction. Our physician and staff are highly trained and committed to fostering excellence in eye care, while creating a welcoming environment for our patients, and maintaining constant communication and repsect with each other.
